Mesa Family History Expo
January 22 & 23, 2010 found us in Mesa Arizona for a family history expo. I’m big into genealogy (see my Luxegen Genealogy blog) and this was a chance to combine two of my passions – travel and genealogy!
We flew into Las Vegas (cheap flights to Vegas from Calgary) then drove to Mesa via Flagstaff and Sedona. Goal was to get some winter pics of Sedona – snow on the red rock and all that. Well…we got a bit more than we planned on.
Heavy rain had fallen at the lower elevations (Las Vegas folks were thrilled – they only get rain 4 or 5 times a year) and of course there was snow higher up. We had snow on the edges of the road enroute Flagstaff, Arizona.
And snow in Williams, the entry to Grand Canyon….
And we woke up to snow on the car and patio in Sedona the next morning…
Keep in mind we are Canadians fleeing the snow…but it sure was pretty…
It was a good thing we got out of there that day as the roads were completely closed due to flooding and more snow the next day.
The Family History Expo was excellent too. I cover it in more detail on my Luxegen Genealogy blog.
Despite the snow (and we could have avoided it by going around) it was a fun trip and a great genealogy learning experience.
